Tales and Tails
Beginning in June, Sam will be available for children to read to at the Giles County Public Library. Therapy dogs are used for children to practice reading. Many children who have difficulties reading are often self-conscious when reading out loud in front of their classmates. Therapy dogs allow a child to read out loud to the dog without being judged. The dog allows the child to relax and read aloud to the dog, thereby improving the child's reading skills and is able to associate the act of reading with something pleasant.
Numerous studies have shown that children reading out loud to therapy dogs improves reading skills and reading comprehension, as explained in this article.
