Finally Started Sam's Therapy Dog Visits!

After getting all the paperwork and certifications done, I finally took Sam on his first therapy dog visits! I'm behind on where I wanted to be at this point with his visitations, but I had an epic six-week stint where I was out of town on business, so I was obviously unable to take him while I wasn't home.

Today we visited NHC Pulaski and Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

NHC Pulaski

Sam made several new friends at NHC, not least of which was Miss Alice. Miss Alice loves dogs and even keeps a box of dog treats in her room for her visiting furry friends. She wanted kisses from Sam, so she coerced him by putting his treats in her mouth and having him take them from her there.

Our next visit was to Meadowbrook Nursing home. Sam got to meet lots of patients and staff and was a big hit. Almost all the patients there thanked me for bringing Sam to visit. Sam especially liked a girl he met who has Down's Syndrome. He decided he was going to lie down and guard her.

There is apparently another Great Pyrenees who comes to visit the nursing homes in town, as at both NHC and Meadowbrook, I was regaled with stories of Tiny, another Great Pyrenees who has been visiting both places for years.

All in all, it was a good visit. The patients and staff all loved Sam and he enjoyed his visits.
